Theme: Post Natal Depression and Fatherhood Location: Sunderland Guest Speaker: Mark Collins, Male Engagement Worker, Sure Start Middlesbrough. When a new baby is born, health visitors and doctors are trained to look for signs of postnatal depression in the mother. But new research suggests that healthcare workers should also be looking for signs of depression in the father too - because it appears to have long term consequences on the child's behaviour and emotional development. "The influence of fathers in very early childhood may have been under-estimated in the past, but these findings indicate that paternal depression has a specific and persisting impact on children's early behavioural and emotional development and that fathers influence their children's development from very early in life.

Age discrimination comes into force in October 2006. It is potentially the most significant piece of employment legislation in the last 25 years, as age discrimination is something that will affect every employee and will ultimately alter the culture of work. The legislation brings with it the need for several changes to the way you recruit, pay, train and dismiss people. All employers from the smallest to the largest will be affected and time is running out to put the changes in place. If you have not already attended a seminar on Age Discrimination then do not leave it any longer. Friday 19th May, 9.30am - 12.30pm
